EMILY Woodman is 30 years old. When she heard in December 2014 that she had stage 4 terminal cervical cancer and just 12 months to live, her world fell apart. For her health, Emily underwent an operation to cut out her tumor as well as her uterus and bilateral fallopian tubes in 2014. Unfortunately, in 2016, her cancer relapsed and deteriorated into stage 4 , together with lung metastasis.

“Doctors told me it was too late for surgery or radiation: they could only prepare me for the end with palliative chemotherapy.”But Emily wasn’t willing to give up. “If you have lung or breast cancer, you can try so many different things,” she told news.com.au. “They put money into so many different cancers. They see me — a 30-year-old with a four-year-old — and they say,‘nope, go home and die’. It’s really surprising and so unfair.” Most told her the same thing. There was nothing to be done. They gave her morphine and cough medicine, and sent her home.

Fortunately, Emily met Dr. Manuela Boyle, who proposed a radical idea--go to China and try cutting-edge treatments that aren’t available in Australia. Finally, Emily came to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou.
When Emily was admitted into St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, she was very weak. She kept coughing day and night and can hardly walk or lie down. She had difficulty in breathing due to the fluid in her lungs. She felt like a drowning man. After detailed check-up, doctors first helped drained out 3 liters of fluid, then interventional therapy was conducted straight away in her lung to kill the tumors.
Soon after, tumors began to die off, her cough was cured and she regained her physical strength to walk all day. Emily underwentcryotherapy later, which she said was amazing and very easy. She coughed up part of the dead tumor four days after the cryotherapy.

Till now, she has experienced three sessions of interventional therapy and two sessions of cryotherapy. The latest CT scan result showed that tumors in her lungs were much smaller, and the largest one already shrank by 4 cm and all her indicators has returned to normal.

*Surgery, in addition to the appropriate chemotherapy and radiotherapy, are effective in treating early cancer, but certain patients in late stage of cancer may not be tolerate surgery well as they can be relatively weak. A combination of carefully planned minimally invasive therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the side effects and discomfort of treatment and may help patient get better efficacy.
