Cervical Cancer Staging

According to statistics from American Cancer Society, the five-year survival rate of different stages of cervical cancer are as follows:

Stage I cervical cancer: 93%

Stage II cervical cancer: 85% to 90%

Stage III cervical cancer: 35%

Stage IV cervical cancer: 15%

From the data listed above, it can be concluded that early detection and treatment are the key factors to improve cervical cancer patients’ survival rate. Only after knowing the stages of cervical cancer can doctors make appropriate treatment plans and prognosis after treatment. How is cervical cancer staged?

(The treatment for different stages of liver cancer is only for reference)

Treatments for stage 0 cervical cancer: trachelectomy, natural therapy, combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine

Stage I cervical cancer: the carcinoma is strictly confined to the cervix (extension to the corpus would be disregarded).

Treatments for stage I cervical cancer: trachelectomy, interventional therapy, combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine

Stage II cervical cancer: cervical carcinoma invades beyond the uterus, but not to the pelvic wall or to the lower third of the vagina.

Treatments for Stage II cervical cancer: combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine, interventional therapynatural therapy

Stage III cervical cancer: the tumour extends to the pelvic wall and/or involves lower third of the vagina and/or causes hydronephrosis or non-functioning kidney.

Treatments for stage III cervical cancer: interventional therapy, particle implantation, combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine, natural therapy

Stage IV cervical cancer: the carcinoma has extended beyond the true pelvis or has involved (biopsy proven) the mucosa of the bladder or rectum.

Treatments for stage IV cervical cancer: interventional therapy, microwave ablation, particle implantation, combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine, natural therapy

Recurrent cervical cancer: recurrent cervical cancer occurs when the cancer is detected months or years after the completion of an initial cancer treatment regimen. The recurrent cervical cancer rate is lower for those with early-stage disease.

Treatment for recurrent cervical cancer: interventional therapy, particle implantation, microwave ablation, combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine, natural therapy
