Minimally Invasive Therapy Creates 12-year Breast Cancer Survivor*

Some treatments cause irreversible side effects, so it’s important to choose the appropriate treatment in the first place. For breast cancer patients, right treatment is crucial to survive.

Breast cancer unexpectedly comes to me

CARINA comes from Indonesia. In Oct. 2007, she was detected a tumor in her right breast and diagnosed with breast cancer in local hospital. Afterwards she received surgery and chemotherapy.

She suffered from chemotherapy, what’s worse, the combined treatment fails to stop cancer from coming back in 2008. Cancer recurrence with metastasis to pelvic cavity leads to another surgery.

She was frightened and worried about the result. Back in Indonesia, she had no choice but to take surgery, chemotherapy and radiation for cancer therapy.

Minimally invasive therapy brings hope at critical moment

The thought of treating cancer abroad occurred to CARINA, she searched related information about breast cancer. The more she knows, the more she worried about the second surgery. Unfortunately, she found St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, in which 18 minimally invasive therapies are provided. She decided to go to China for treatment without delay.

Based on her case, doctors in MCHG adopted natural therapy, which reduce the chance of recurrence and improve quality of life and prolong survival. It’s worth mentioning that after natural therapy, CARINA did’t suffer any side effect but only got improved condition.

To get better effect, the doctor also applied combined treatment of Chinese traditional medicine with minimally invasive therapy. According to her attending doctor, “cancer is tough to be treated, so doctors usually measure comprehensive treatment for each patient’s case.” After the treatment, CARINA is getting better with the metastatic tumor being removed and well under control.

12-year breast cancer fighter

Living with cancer for 12 years, CARINA almost forgot she’s a cancer patient. Being fully contributed to business and family, she was trying to be a good wife and mother. She often took part in activities organized by Surabaya Office of MCHG to sharing her anticancer story and encourages people who are also suffering cancer.

From 2007-2019, from advanced cancer patient to cancer survivor, CARINA noted that, cancer can be defeated. Staying positive and right treatment are vital for winning the cancer fight. That’s what I learned from my experience. For other cancer patients, I hope that they can find appropriate cancer treatment and get it over with. We’re together in the battle against cancer.

*Surgery, in addition to the appropriate chemotherapy and radiotherapy, are effective in treating early cancer, but certain patients in late stage of cancer may not be tolerate surgery well as they can be relatively weak. A combination of carefully planned minimally invasive therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the side effects and discomfort of treatment and may help patient get better efficacy.
